Sixth Form students and parents gathered on Tuesday evening to get ready for our Amazing Iceland 2019 Adventure. The full itinerary takes us across the south coast of Iceland to see the most incredible sights where the North Atlantic Ridge rises above sea level. It is the only place on the planet where this geological phenomenon occurs and the landscape is more moon like than earth like!
Glaciers, hot geysirs, boiling rivers and the northern lights amongst many others geological treats await us in early February. We are staying in a remote hotel about 1.5 hrs drive across extinct volcano ranges and lavafields from the capital city Reykavik. This translates as Smokey Bay because the first settlers saw what they thought was smoke across the landscape but it was the steam and lava smoke coming out of the ground across the mountain ranges!
We will also be swimming outdoors in sub zero temperatues and bathing in secret lagoons whilst relaxing in the evening time at the hotel. Our itinerary is shown below together with some sample photographs of the magical Iceland!
Roll on February 4th 2019, our departure date. Students in Years 10 and 11, watch out, your turn next!
